Columbia University SPS Launches AI Research Lab

(NEW YORK)–Columbia University’s School of Professional Studies announced the launch of a new AI Lab, a dedicated resource for students, alumni, and faculty to build real fluency in one of the most consequential technology shifts of our time.

The Lab is organized around five core priorities: thought leadership through speaker series and research publications; industry partnerships focused on applied, job-relevant skills; original research on topics including superintelligence, governance, and leadership; and hands-on access to a curated sandbox of today’s most important tools and platforms.

Tom Bustamante, Founder and CEO, Next Realm AI, “Columbia is leading the way in responsible AI. Few institutions are tackling both the technical and ethical dimensions with this level of rigor than Columbia University. I believe what SPS is building gives the next generation of leaders a framework to deploy these technologies thoughtfully, not just effectively. That distinction matters enormously right now.”

The M.S. in Technology Management program will serve as the founding sponsor of the SPS AI Lab, with the initiative led by Program Director Shahryar Shaghaghi, Associate Program Director Katja Schroeder, and Executive Director of Analytics and Information Systems Dr. Mark Ritzmann.

Next Realm AI is also looking to collaborate on new LLM Benchmark Platform, a tool designed to independently test and grade today’s leading large language models (LLMs) and autonomous agents. The platform will provide transparent, standardized performance rankings across key capabilities, giving enterprises and industry CEO’s a clearer picture of where each model truly stands.
